Getting ready for Open House

Wanting to show off our student's knowledge of the ipads, I will be setting up creation stations for Open House.  It's hard to get many visitors in the library, as students are so excited to show off their classroom work, so I will capitalize on this with a chance to show off their work in the library.

Padlet - write on the We Are Readers wall, post your pic to show your love for reading!
(Computers and iPad)

30hands - add a pic, add voice to tell us why you're excited to be at Parkway.
(iPad)

Fotobabble - snap a pic of your favorite book, drop it on the cart, add your voice to tell us why it's your fav?
(iPhone)

Flipgrid - where's you favorite place to read? How do you become a better reader?
(iPad)

Library update with 30hands app

The kids had so much fun creating their library videos with 30 hands, I decided to play along too. Here is my February update (includes slides created with the PicCollage app, one of my all-time favorite apps):

It's all about Pete the Cat

Pete is THE cat!  Fun to read, fun to create.  This week in library, introduced Pete the Cat to k5 through 2. Students had an opportunity to listen to audiobooks, videos and follow along with print copies.  I used QR codes to make it easy for students to find the audio to go with each book.  Some students used ipads (audio book from Overdrive), while others used desktops to access videos from the publishers website.  Print books were available too!

Fotobabble + Mad-Libs!

Giving voice to fun creations!

As a way to learn about the magazines available in our school library, pairs of students selected a magazine title and created an Ad-Lib for their magazine. Students then presented their Ad-Lib to their class. We used this opportunity to discuss what it looks, feels and sounds like to be a good audience.

As a fun follow-up activity, students created crazy, silly, outrageous Mad-Libs. Because the students were studying dinosaurs, we elected to do the pre-historic Mad-Libs!

After illustrating the Mad-Libs, students used the Fotobabble app to snap a photo of their creations and record their silly stories.

Fun to create and fun to listen to.
