It's all about Pete the Cat

Pete is THE cat!  Fun to read, fun to create.  This week in library, introduced Pete the Cat to k5 through 2. Students had an opportunity to listen to audiobooks, videos and follow along with print copies.  I used QR codes to make it easy for students to find the audio to go with each book.  Some students used ipads (audio book from Overdrive), while others used desktops to access videos from the publishers website.  Print books were available too!

Fotobabble + Mad-Libs!

Giving voice to fun creations!

As a way to learn about the magazines available in our school library, pairs of students selected a magazine title and created an Ad-Lib for their magazine. Students then presented their Ad-Lib to their class. We used this opportunity to discuss what it looks, feels and sounds like to be a good audience.

As a fun follow-up activity, students created crazy, silly, outrageous Mad-Libs. Because the students were studying dinosaurs, we elected to do the pre-historic Mad-Libs!

After illustrating the Mad-Libs, students used the Fotobabble app to snap a photo of their creations and record their silly stories.

Fun to create and fun to listen to.

Have Fun (and Assess) with Plickers

Only have access to one mobile device in your classroom? If that's the case Plickers is an easy way to assess your students, while letting the technology do the work!

Login to the website or download the app and get started.

1) Setup your class (I reuse my Plickers from class to class in the library, so I create "1 student" through "22 student" and then keep a list of names by class, in #1-22 order.

2) Add your questions

3) Assign each class to your questions

4) Quiz your students (I put questions on interactive board and use my iPad to scan for student responses)

5) View report of result

Hour of Code

We did the Hour of Code in library class and the kids loved it. There were enough computers for the kids to work in pairs, which worked well. The students had to ask 3 before me for help. For the most part, they figured it out by themselves.

This was a great activity to challenge kids to try something new. Most kids have access to some sort of computer or mobile device and many are gamers, so this was a great connection. They have s new way of looking at the games they play!
